With the conclusion of the MLB regular season our 2008 fund saw a final ROI of 102%. This greatly exceeded our season goal of 80%, set back in April. Below is a monthly breakdown of this years profits:

April: 16%

May: 19%

June: 14%

July: 16%

August: 22%

September: 15%

As you can see from the monthly percentages June was our slowest month with a return of only 14%; however we were able to make up for June's sluggish results during the playoff races in August and September.

Although our initial season-ending goal was to reach the 80% mark, steady returns in April and May put us on pace to reach approximately 100% by the end of September. With a final ROI of 102%, and an average monthly increase of 17%, the 2008 MLB regular season fund was a definite success.

MLB Account Update

With the conclusion of the month of June the MLB 2008 fund is up an additional 14% for a total of 49% since the beginning of the season. The MLB halfway point is nearly one week away and the projected profits for the first half of the season are approximately 53%; we are relatively on pace to reach our goal of 100% by the end of the regular season.

Betting on NASCAR & F1

Some people ask us why we don't invest in racing sports such as NASCAR and Formula 1. The simple answer is that it's just too risky. Unlike basketball, hockey and even baseball, racing is not a "team" sport, therefore the outcome of a race relies too heavily on a single person, i.e. the driver. Furthermore, no matter how good the driver is there are still too many uncontrollable variables, such as blown tires, being hit by another driver, and thousands of possible mechanical malfunctions.

In basketball, for example, if one player has a bad game the other players can make up for it, therefore helping to limit negative outcomes to a minimum. The same thing goes for all other "team" sports such as football and hockey. This is the primary reason why the Market Growth team refuses to take risks on individual sports such as racing, golf and tennis. Investing your money in a group of 20 guys instead of a single individual drastically reduces the likelihood of losing.

Therefore, next time you are thinking of throwing some cash down on your favourite driver, golfer or tennis star, you might want to think twice about the real odds of winning.

WNBA - a good investment??

For the past 2 summers we have been actively invested in the WNBA and to our surprise the returns have been rather decent. The 2006 season brought forth gains of just more than 16%, and last season we were able to clear the 20% mark. Although many people tend not to bother with the seemingly unpopular sport of women's basketball, there is money to be made if you have the patients.

Since the WNBA is so small, and their season is only one third the length of the NBA's, many investors decide to focus solely on baseball throughout the summer months and forget the women's league. However if you are looking for somewhere to make a little extra cash this summer don't be so quick to disregard the WNBA as a potential investment opportunity.

With the nearing completion of the NBA playoffs the Market Growth NBA 2007-2008 fund has cashed-in an impressive 46% return on investment. Higher than last seasons ROI of only 33%, this year's fund was able beat our pre-season target of 40%.

Next season we are hoping to at least match this seasons returns, however we are looking at increasing our target from 40% to 50%.

NHL Account Update

With the completion of the 2007-2008 NHL regular season, profits have been tallied to a solid 32% return on investment.

Although we did not reach our goal of 40% the fund did perform better than last year, which produced a return of only 25%.

Next season we hope to match our record-breaking 2005-2006 regular season profits which reached an all-time high of 55%.

The season is nearing the 1/3 completion mark and profits are on a steady climb. So far the 2008-2009 MLB regular season fund is up 35%.

After 2 months of regular season play we have seen a 17% average monthly increase on our initial investment. We are well on our way to reaching our goal of 80%.

If profits continue to average around the 17% mark we forcast a season-ending return of just over 100%.
